About the event

Vivid depictions of the sea, virtuosic piano lines, and lavish musical forces: the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and City of London Choir celebrate 150 years since Ralph Vaughan Williams’s birth.

This evening of two halves champions both Vaughan Williams’s well-loved and lesser-known works. We hear Vaughan Williams in his full and mighty force, in the well-loved restless, capricious and majestic Sea Symphony, led by star soloists Roderick Williams and Sophie Bevan. Before that, pianist Mark Bebbington begins the evening with a flourish, taking centre-stage as soloist in the unusual Fantasia on the Old 104th Psalm Tune, as well as in the dancing melodies of Vaughan Williams’s jazz-influenced, passionate Piano Concerto in C.

A unique celebration of the ground-breaking composer on a grand scale.
