About the event

A concert for Remembrancetide. Vaughan Williams’s ravishing and pacific Serenade to Music, composed in 1938 as storm clouds were gathering in Europe, is followed by Ravel’s eloquent memorial to his own friends who fell in WWI, Le Tombeau de Couperin. The programme culminates in Vaughan Williams’s mighty anti-war cantata, Dona Nobis Pacem, recalling his own horrifying experiences of the WWI battlefields as a volunteer.
